Our Mission

It is not incumbent upon you to finish the task, but neither are you free to absolve yourself from it.
— Rabbi Tarfon, Pirke Avot 2:21

Our Mission

Build a vibrant Jewish future, care for those in need, deepen our learning, support Israel, celebrate Shabbat — all in a joy-filled, warm, nonjudgmental environment. We welcome all with open minds, open arms, and open hearts.

Three pillars of Pico Shul are derived from Pirkei Avot.

  • Lovingkindness

Kol Yisrael areivim zeh lazeh‘ – Each Jew is responsible for the other.  Every single Jew is spiritually bound up with every other Jew, and every action we take, whether positive or negative, directly affects everyone else. We also care about the larger community of Los Angeles, America, and the World.

  • Community

Through a community, one’s Jewish spiritual, social and cultural life experience is enhanced and expanded. A community and a rabbi are also there with you in the good times, and the tough times.

  • Spiritual Growth

Through Torah learning, joyous prayer and service to others, we increase our spiritual sensitivity and growth.
